Avatar and Sherlock Holmes

Hola! As promised, it is about time I gave my short and sweet review of Avatar. And a review of another movie as well. =)

I loved this movie! Although I thought that watching it in 3D was slightly overrated. Or maybe that was just because the 3D quality at GSC Dataran Pahlawan was not up to standard. Loved the colours, the plot, and of course the creative ideas that made up this movie. This movie also kinda shows that humans are greedy and inhumane when it comes to make profit. And it also shows that some humans would fight for what is right, albeit going against your own kind. I thought this movie was a lot better than 2012. I didn't expect the movie was 2 hours and 40 minutes long but it was more than worth the duration. No part of the movie bored me and the director even threw in a little sense of humour here and there as well for good measure. All in all, I'd give this movie a 9/10. The best movie I've watched in 2009. But I haven't watched 2 blockbusters of the year yet (Star Trek & Terminator Salvation). So, I might change that perception.

Went to watch Sherlock Holmes 2 days ago and I wasn't disappointed. I expected it to be a good movie after watching the trailer a few months back. Once again, Robert Downey Jr played his role as Sherlock Holmes to perfection. Credits to Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong for putting up good performances as well. Movie had a decent plot, good sense of humour and some nice costumes to go with the theme and settings for the movie. A little extra talking here and there but nothing that bothered me too much. It was definitely worth the money spent to watch it in the cinema. I give this movie a 8.5/10 rating. One of the best movies of the year for me.

That's all for now. Time to plug in the external hard drive and watch the remaining 2 movies that are supposedly very good in the summer of 2009!

Christmas is 'Round the Corner!

Oh hello! I feel so sorry for this blog. I haven't touched it for more than a month now. Been rather busy during the past month with all the courseworks and what not. My brain was on over-clock mode more often than ever before while doing those courseworks. And yet, I feel like I didn't do enough to get good marks out of them.

Anyway, Christmas is almost here! Woohoo! Again, my parents decided not to have an open house for Christmas this year. Main reason is that my relatives decided to celebrated Christmas in KL again this year and nobody would be coming down to Melaka. I miss that! I miss having the whole family on Christmas Eve at my grandparents' house and having barbequed food for dinner and then gathering round to collect our presents. Then the next day there would be an open house at my place where there's booze and my mom's chicken pie! =) Nothing's better than celebrating Christmas in Melaka ok?! I must insist my parents to celebrate Christmas back in Melaka next year!

Finally got my present a few days back. I usually don't have a list of what I want for Christmas but this year I thought I wanted either a pair of jogging shoes or an away Liverpool jersey. But since Liverpool is VERY SUCKY this season I'd thought better of getting the jersey. Went to Mahkota Parade to look for one but in the end I got myself a perfume instead. This was because my brother said that I could find cheap shoes like Umbro or something. And since I always end up tearing my sports shoes, I figured he's right - might as well buy a cheap pair of shoes with my own money.

I haven't been to the Portuguese Settlement to see the Christmas decorations there yet but I bet it's the same as always - lots of colourful lights, some big-ass inflatable Santa(s) and lots and lots of locals/tourists walking around at night taking pictures. Mahkota Parade's decorations weren't that grand. Here's some pictures.

Yeah, I know it's actually pictures of the same place but what the heck! Haha

Here's 3 pictures of some simple decorations my mom put up for Christmas at home. =)

It's actually supposed to be my study break now and I've not touched my notes yet. Exams start in January and I've got lots to study. I hate exams in January! 'Cause I know I can hardly study before Christmas anyway. How do the students in UK deal with this, I wonder. Oh well, I guess I have to start somehow. And sooner rather than later or else I'd be screwed for my exams! That's all for now, peeps! Will update again when I'm free.

End of the World? Nah..It's Still There

So last Thursday me and 3 friends of mine decided to watch 2012.

First things first. This movie had somehow created a lot of hype. And i mean A LOT! We went to Mid Valley expecting that since there were 7 screenings between 11.15-12.45, we thought that it would be impossible to not get any tickets and so we didn't reserve any. BIG mistake! As soon as we arrived at the ticketing counters we heard an announcement that the tickets are sold out. SOLD OUT??!! Anyway we were lucky enough that we waited for them to release the reserved tickets for the 12.15 movie and somehow managed to grab the last 4 tickets available.

Here's my take on the movie. To summarise it all up, it's a little disappointing considering all the hype that the movie generated amongst movie-goers. First of all, I can't believe how lucky the family escaped from falling buildings and bridges. And a big ship to escape? So cliche. Then, another thing that bummed me was the world was still there at the end of the movie. I mean, come on, it's 2012. The world was supposed to end. Why didn't it go BOOM like in the movie Knowing? On the plus side though, the effects were really cool. Too bad I didn't witness the Petronas Twin Towers falling. That would have been awesome to watch! Overall, I give the movie 6.5/10.

On another note, I celebrated my sister's birthday on the weekend. Here are some pictures from the party on Saturday.

What's In A Name

Do you sometimes wonder what your name actually meant? I never really bothered until this came up.

Apparently, through the internet, my name has some bullshit meanings, as I found out through a friend. FML!

The Weekend's Gone By and We're Legal Baby!!

Legal? What am I talking about? Well, on the weekend my friends and myself just celebrated Kevan's 21st birthday. Now, all the guys are officially 21. Legal to go casino, voting, and alcoholic drinks?? BULLSHIT! We all know 21 only signifies official legalisation of yourself but we ourselves know when we decided to do all kinds of shit before we turned 21. HAHA! XD Well, here are some pictures from the party.

Singing our lungs out..

This is....normal for the both of us XD

There you go, all "confirmed" adults. It's been a long year celebrating 21st birthdays for everyone. Hopefully when the guys in Australia come back at the end of the year, we can plan to go on a holiday. It's been too long since the last vacation involving the whole gang. =)

Back to Winning Ways!

Once again, my beloved Liverpool FC produced a great performance under all the scepticism from the media and football pundits! What a great way to bounce back from losing 4 games in a row - win against the most bitter of rivals, Manchester United. That puts a big smile on my face again as far as football is concerned. Liverpool finally had a clean sheet too today and were dominating most of the match, which is a good sign for the upcoming matches. Goals from Fernando Torres and David N'gog showed that Liverpool still have a lot of fight left in them and the race for the title is far from over. Now I'm hoping that the team will perform like they did today throughout the season. My Man of the Match today - Fernando Torres.

Played well after coming back from injury, caused Vidic to have some problems and scored a goal in front of the Kop end by holding off Rio Ferdinand to power a shot into the roof of the net. 9th goal of the season for the lad! Crisis? What crisis?? Woot!!

Race, Beyonce & More

First of all, I'd like to state the obvious - Malaysia has some real big problems regarding race relations amongst its people. The main problem is, my country has people from several racial backgrounds and the whole nation grew up thinking there's a "majority" race in this country and that they are entitled to get rights that the "minority" races do not deserve. In my opinion, I believe that there's a need for Malaysian people should be classified as just that - Malaysians. Not Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan etc. And I also believe that all of its people should be treated equally. For example, there should be no such thing as quotas for scholarships. Scholarships are meant to provide financial help for the deserving and needy students - meaning that those who excel in their examinations and who are not well-off irrespective of their racial background. I wished that certain Malaysians did not exist, like this person in the video.

I'll refrain myself from using expletives here with regards to the guy in the video. But seriously, he should be thankful he's living in Malaysia because if he was living anywhere else he's sure to be gunned down or chopped into pieces already. Sigh, I wished Malaysians are more like these 2 boys.

On another note, Beyonce decided to "postpone" her concert in Kuala Lumpur.

I'd like to think the so-called postponement is more like a cancellation, which sucks really. I'm not a really a fan of Beyonce but I think she's a talented artist. And I'm sure there are a lot of Beyonce fans in Malaysia. I bet those who bought her concert tickets must be fuming now. No, it's not her fault. It's mainly because of a small bunch of people who are holier-than-thou. You see, Malaysia has some really strict guidelines (being a Muslim nation) for those who want to perform here i.e. minimal skin exposure and not-so-raunchy dance moves. Unfortunately, Beyonce dresses sexily and shakes her hips like there's no tomorrow. I don't blame her. That's the natural way she performs and that's why people love her. But there's always a certain political party who just love to protest any concert that is going to be performed in Malaysia. I think it's pretty much stupid and illogical to deny an artist to perform in front of their own fans. And why the strict guidelines? Why stop artists from doing what they do? Indonesia let her perform in their country, even though it's the nation with the biggest Muslim population. Heck, Indonesia even has Playboy published there!

Anyway, on a less serious matter, I just finished watching Surrogates a few hours ago.

The movie was decent. Not great. 6.5/10 I'd say. But I surely wish that what happens in the movie does not happen in reality because I wouldn't want to see "plastic faces" all over the place. If you see lots of them in a dark street, it'll scare the shit out of you!

I want to watch Sherlock Holmes which is coming out at the end of the year. The trailer looks fairly interesting.

And maybe I should scare myself too with this Thai horror movie - Phobia 2. Trailer looks frightening enough.

Well, that's all for now. Time for me to get some sleep and dream about digital SLR cameras since I can't afford to have one right now. Not before I start working anyway. =P Goodnight!

p.s I'd appreciate some feedback/comments from those who read this blog.

Shifted!

Hey ya! Yeah, it's me. I've shifted from my xanga blog to here because frankly, I think blogspot is probably the most popular among all other blogs like xanga and wordpress. Just my opinion anyway. Anyway, it's already very late now so I'll only start blogging tomorrow afternoon. Have a great weekend people!
